Easiest Way to Ship to the UK from Nigeria

November 2, 2023

If you're shipping a package from Nigeria to the United Kingdom there are several things you need to consider. However, in this blog post, we'll walk you through the simplest way to ship your items to the UK stress-free.

We will cover the following four (4) aspects of shipping:

1. Your item for shipping:

It seems obvious but it's crucial to consider what kind of item goes into your package. Ensure it's not a prohibited item. See a list of prohibited items here.

Also, ensure that it is packaged well. This will enable the item to arrive in the same state as it was sent. Below is a quick tutorial on how to properly package your item for shipping:

Note that Terminal provides an option to pick up your item from your location.

2. HS Code:

HS Code is short for Harmonized System Code. When shipping to the UK, HS codes help you describe your shipment properly so that you don't encounter any challenges with customs and other regulations. On Terminal, you can easily describe your package using HS Codes. Learn more about HS codes here: Top 10 HS Codes You Need When Shipping Internationally

3. The Carrier:

You may not bother so much about the carrier in particular, but here are a few things to consider when choosing a courier.

- The pickup time: ensure to select a pickup time that works for your timeline. Generally, faster pickup times are good for sending things urgently.

- The price of delivery: ensure to choose the best delivery price based on your budget.

- The delivery time: you should ensure to choose a delivery time that meets your needs.

You can easily compare these three criteria to get the best shipping rates using the free shipping quote calculator. 4. Shipping to the UK

This is the easiest bit with Terminal. As soon as your package is ready to be shipped, you can arrange for it to be picked up from your location and shipped to the UK using the Terminal platform. Terminal is available on the web, iOS, and Android platforms. It's free to sign up and get verified.

Here are the ten (10) steps for shipping a package with Terminal Africa

  1. Start by visiting the Terminal Africa website. If you're a new user, sign up; otherwise, log into your account.
  2. Once you're at the dashboard, click "Arrange Delivery" under the "Ship a package in minutes" option.
  3. Provide the pickup location's address where you want the courier to collect your package. Make sure to include a contact telephone number and email address for coordination.
  4. Enter the delivery address where you want your package to be sent, along with the recipient's contact telephone number and email address.
  5. Click on "Add Item" to include details about the item you're shipping. Provide comprehensive information such as the item's name (e.g., Laptop), brand (e.g., HP), colour (e.g., black), quantity (e.g., 1), value (e.g., N120,000), and weight (e.g.7kg).
  6. When shipping to the UK, you need the HS code for the item you’re shipping. Select item category e.g., fabric. Specify your item type e.g., t-shirt. Find the right HS code. e.g., for T-shirts it's 610990. You can add another item, and follow the steps to include the right HS code.
  7. Next, you'll be presented with various courier options, including DHL, FedEx, and others, each with their best prices. Select the carrier that suits your needs.
  8. After choosing a carrier, you'll receive a summary of all the information you've provided. You'll then be prompted to make a payment, which can be done through different payment options.
  9. Take a moment to carefully review all the information you've provided and confirm your payment.
  10. If you're shipping internationally, make sure to download and print your waybill and commercial invoice, both of which are available on the shipment page.
