How to Add International & Local Shipping to your WooCommerce store for free

After building your WooCommerce store, you need to install the plugin that embodies the shipping rates. This is the Terminal Africa plugin for WordPress. It's completely free to install and use. 

Terminal Africa has designed a user-friendly WordPress plugin that simplifies the process. In this step-by-step guide, we'll show you how to add international and local shipping functions to your existing WooCommerce store effortlessly.

Step 1: Install and Activate Terminal Africa's WordPress Plugin

Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.

Go to "Plugins" and click on "Add New."

Search for "Terminal Africa Shipping Plugin" and click "Install Now."

After installation, activate the plugin.

Step 2: Link your Plugin to your Terminal Africa Account

For you to use the shipping plugin, you need to create a free Terminal Africa Account, and link it to your WooCommerce Store. Terminal Africa is the logistics software company that will automate your shipments by connecting you with trusted courier partners like DHL, FedEx, Aramex, GIGL and so much more.

On your WordPress dashboard menu, click on Terminal Africa.

Copy and paste your Live API keys from your Terminal Africa’s account to get started.


Your Live API Keys can be gotten from the Settings section after logging in. 


Confirm address override by clicking ‘Yes, continue’. This will allow Terminal Africa to accurately determine  your shipping locations.

Step 3: Set up your default address and contact info. 

This will be the pick up address of your business.

Check that there is no existing shipping PlugIn ( such as flexible shipping , flat rate per state) if there is, go ahead and disable it.

Step 4: Configure Your Shipping Settings

Navigate to "WooCommerce" in the WordPress admin menu.

Click on "Settings" and choose the "Shipping" tab.

Enable Shipping Zones

Click "Shipping Zones."

  • To set up local shipping, click on "Add Shipping Zone." Name it (e.g., "Local Shipping").
  • Select the region or locations where you want to offer local shipping.
  • Choose Nigeria if it’s just domestic shipments. For international shipping, select world wide and add preferred continents.
  • After selecting Nigeria, set your preferred shipping method to Terminal Africa.
  • Click on the save button.

Configure International Shipping

  • To enable international shipping, create a new shipping zone by clicking "Add Shipping Zone."
  • Name it (e.g., "International Shipping").
  • Select the countries where you wish to offer international shipping.
  • After selecting International countries, set your preferred shipping method to Terminal Africa.
  • Click on the save button.

Step 5: Update Shipping Information on Your Products

For each product, ensure you've set the correct weight and dimensions.

This is crucial for accurate shipping calculations.

Now that you've successfully added both local and international shipping options to your WooCommerce store, don't forget to update your website to promote these new features.
