Job Description:

As HR Manager at Terminal Africa, you will be the driving force behind our people operations — building scalable HR systems, developing a high-performance culture, and ensuring every employee has an exceptional experience from day one. This is an individual contributor role with a mandate to build and own the HR function end-to-end, with the expectation of growing a team as the company scales. You will report directly to the CEO and work closely with department heads to align people strategy with business objectives. The right person for this role is both a strategic thinker and a hands-on operator — someone who can design the framework and execute the details.

Responsibilities & Duties
HR Operations & Compliance
  • Own end-to-end HR operations including policies, procedures, documentation, and compliance with Nigerian labour laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the full employee lifecycle: onboarding, transfers, promotions, and offboarding.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date employee records and HR documentation.
  • Proactively identify and close compliance gaps before they become risks.
HRMS Management (SeamlessHR)
  • Serve as the system owner for SeamlessHR, ensuring data accuracy and process efficiency.
  • Coordinate leave management, attendance tracking, payroll inputs, and employee records through the HRMS.
  • Generate and present HR reports and workforce analytics for leadership review.
  • Drive adoption across the organisation through training and change management.
Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning
  • Lead the full recruitment cycle: scoping, sourcing, interviewing, offer management, and onboarding.
  • Partner with department heads to forecast hiring needs and manage headcount planning.
  • Build a strong employer brand and candidate pipeline to support Terminal Africa’s growth.
  • Support succession planning and internal mobility initiatives.
Performance Management
  • Design and own the performance management framework, including OKR/KPI cycles, review cadences, and calibration processes.
  • Coach and support managers in delivering effective, fair, and consistent performance conversations.
  • Identify performance trends and recommend targeted interventions.
Employee Relations & Engagement
  • Act as a trusted, neutral resource for employee concerns, grievances, and conflict resolution.
  • Design and execute engagement initiatives, wellness programmes, and culture-building activities.
  • Monitor engagement signals and proactively address retention risks.
  • Champion a diverse, inclusive, and high-performance workplace.
Payroll & Benefits
  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing and statutory remittances (PAYE, pension, NSITF, NHF).
  • Oversee the administration of employee benefits, leave entitlements, and compensation reviews.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all compensation and personal employee data.
Qualifications & Skills:
Essential
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4–6 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in a startup, tech, or fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong, demonstrable experience with SeamlessHR or a comparable HRMS platform.
  • Solid understanding of Nigerian labour law, statutory compliance, and HR best practices.
  • Proven experience across recruitment, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
  • High level of discretion and integrity in handling confidential information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR analytics/reporting.
Preferred
  • HR professional certification: CIPM, SHRM, HRCI, or equivalent.
  • Experience managing HR across multiple locations or distributed teams.
  • Exposure to logistics, supply chain, or technology-driven businesses.
Personality Profile

Beyond qualifications, we are looking for someone whose natural work style and character align with both the demands of this role and the culture at Terminal Africa. Our ideal HR Manager is:

  • People-First, but Results-Oriented: You genuinely care about people and build real trust across the organisation. But you also hold a high bar — you balance empathy with accountability and never lose sight of business outcomes.
  • Calm Under Pressure: Startups move fast and things change. You stay grounded, think clearly under ambiguity, and bring calm and structure when others may be reactive.
  • Builder Mindset: You enjoy building things from scratch. You don’t wait for perfect conditions — you design the process, test it, improve it, and scale it.
  • Discreet & Trustworthy: You handle sensitive information with care and professionalism. People trust you because you’ve earned it — through consistent, principled behaviour.
  • Data-Informed Decision Maker: You use data to tell the story of your people and back your decisions. You’re comfortable with HR metrics, dashboards, and presenting insights to leadership.
  • Commercially Aware: You understand how HR decisions impact the bottom line. You translate people strategy into business value and communicate it in terms that resonate with leadership.
Benefits:

At Terminal Africa, we believe that a great employee experience starts with us. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Competitive salary in the range of ₦1m – ₦2m per month, negotiable based on experience.
  • A high-impact role with direct visibility to senior leadership and meaningful scope from day one.
  • The opportunity to build and shape the HR function as the company scales.
  • A collaborative, no-politics culture where your ideas are welcomed and acted upon.
  • Access to continuous learning, certifications, and career development support.
  • Employee health benefits and wellness support.
